Fleur spreken bij de assembly en ze zingen / Fleur is on stage with the assembly and they sing

Vandaag was de hosting van de grote assembly in handen van de klas van Fleur en een year 2 klas. Fleur mocht deze keer ook weer wat zeggen en ze deed het weer erg goed. Fleur is helemaal niet verlegen als ze op het podium moet staan, erg knap hoor. Ook deden deze twee klassen nog een liedje. De muziek ging niet helemaal goed, en niet alle kinderen doen even goed mee, maar het is wel heel erg leuk om te kijken.

Today the hosting of the whole school assembly was done by Fleur’s class and a year 2 class. Fleur got to go on stage to say something again and she did very well. Fleur is not shy at all when she is on stage. These two classes also did a song. The music did not work well the whole time, and not all of the children liked to sing and dance, but it was very nice to watch.

Fleur gaat naar het feestje van Stephanie / Fleur is going to Stephanie's birthday party

Fleur had vandaag weer een feestje. Het was het feestje van Stephanie en het was in de binnenspeeltuin waar ze al een keer een ander feestje had gehad. Die keer had ze ook een bonnetje gekregen voor een gratis entree. En dus heb ik Daan ook weer meegenomen naar de binnenspeeltuin en hebben ze zo vandaag allebei een leuke dag gehad.

Today Fleur had a birthday party again. It was the birthday party of Stephanie and it was in the same indoor playground as where she already has had another party. That time she also got a ticket for a free entry. And so I took Daan to the indoor playground and they both had a fun day out.

Een dagje naar Dee Why Beach / A day at Dee Why Beach

Vandaag gaan we naar het strand. We gaan naar Dee Why Beach. Het is lekker weer, maar het waait wel een beetje. We zoeken een leuk plekje uit niet te ver van de zee. We zitten nog niet eens helemaal goed of er rennen al twee lifeguards het water in. Maar de reddingsactie kan worden afgebroken want de meneer kan toch zelf naar het strand komen, hij had waarschijnlijk kramp. Fleur en Daan gaan lekker in het zand spelen en daarna met Erik in de zee. De golven zijn hier best sterk, maar ze vinden het geweldig. Fleur en Daan gaan ook nog even zelf in de golven spelen. Als er een golf aankomt, rennen ze heel hard weg. Dat is natuurlijk dolle pret. Totdat Daan op een gegeven moment struikelt, de golf hem nog meer omgooit, helemaal over hem heen gaat en hem zelfs nog een keer extra laat rollen door de zee en het zand. Daan zit helemaal onder het zand en is kleddernat. We drogen hem goed af en hij komt even bij mij op schoot een beetje opwarmen (het zeewater is ijskoud). Daarna wil hij gelijk weer de zee in, maar wel met Erik. En dan nog iets anders, wij waren al een keer naar achter gegaan met onze spullen omdat de zee toch wel heel dichtbij kwam. Een eindje verderop zaten mensen die dat niet hadden gedaan en die werden op een gegeven moment helemaal weggespoeld. Een heleboel spullen werden de zee in gesleurd, was grappig om te zien maar die mensen zullen wel flink gebaald hebben. Maar goed, voor ons was het een lekker dagje op het strand, alleen af en toe door de wind een klein beetje fris. Als afsluiter (en nog voor de verjaardag van Erik) gaan we uit eten in een restaurantje in Dee Why, we eten lekker en het is erg gezellig.

Today we are going to the beach. We go to Dee Why Beach. The weather is nice but with a little bit of wind. We find a nice spot not too far from the sea. Before we all find a good spot in the sand we see two lifeguards running in the water. But the rescue mission can be stopped because the man walks back to the beach by himself, he probably had a cramp. Fleur and Daan go and play in the sand and after that they go in the sea with Erik. The waves are pretty strong here, but they love it. Fleur and Daan play in the waves alone as well. When a waves comes rolling towards them they run away. They are having a lot of fun with that. Until Daan trips, the wave nocks him over, goes over him completely and even makes him roll around an extra time through the sea and the sand. Daan is covered in sand and is soaking wet. We dry him and he sits with me for a while to warm up a bit (the seawater is freezing cold). After that he straight away wants to go back in the sea, but with Erik this time. And then something else, we had moved all our stuff backwards already because the sea was coming pretty close. A little bit away from us were people that had not done that and they got completely swiped away by the sea. A lot of their stuff was dragged into the sea, it was funny to watch but I think those people were not happy at all. But, we had a great day at the beach, only sometimes it was a little bit chilly because of the wind. As a good end of the day (and for Erik’s birthday) we went out to dinner in a nice little restaurant in Dee Why; we had good food and a good time.

Fleur is verteller van een verhaaltje met assembly / Fleur is narrator of a story with assembly

De klas van Fleur doet vandaag de hosting van de kleine assembly. Fleur hoeft deze keer niet op het podium om iets te zeggen. Maar de klas van Fleur doet ook nog een verhaaltje tijdens de assembly en Fleur is de verteller van het verhaal. We hebben goed geoefend deze week thuis en het gaat heel goed (alleen is het lastig om de microfoon goed bij haar mond te houden en het papiertje om te slaan). Het is een leuk verhaaltje over drie olifanten en de kinderen doen allemaal goed hun best. Wij vonden het heel erg leuk.

Fleur’s class is hosting the small assembly today. Fleur does not have to sit on stage to say something this time. But Fleur’s class is also doing a little story and Fleur is the narrator of the story. We practice hard at home this week and it is going very well (the only problem is holding the microphone close to her mouth and going to the next page). It is a nice story about three elephants and all the children are doing their best. We thought it was a lot of fun.

Erik is jarig vandaag (39 alweer) / It is Erik's birthday today (39 already)

Vandaag is Erik jarig. De kids hebben wat leuke dingen voor hem geknutseld en we hebben gisteren nog een paar leuke kadootjes voor hem gekocht. Omdat Erik vandaag wel gewoon moet werken en Fleur gewoon naar school moet, zingen we heel vroeg voor hem en geven daarna alle kadootjes. En Fleur heeft vandaag dansles, dus kunnen we ook niet uit eten. Dat gaan we in het weekend dan nog wel doen. ’s Avonds komen Katrina en Des nog even langs met een kadootje voor Erik en zo is de dag weer snel voorbij.

Today is Erik’s birthday. The kids made some beautiful things for him and yesterday we bought a couple of nice presents. Because Erik has to go to work today and Fleur has to go to school, we sing early in the morning and after that we give all the presents. And Fleur has dancing lessons today, so we cannot go out to dinner tonight either. But we will do that on the weekend. In the evening Katrina and Des come over with a present for Erik as well and so the day went by very quick.

Wandelen bij Wentworth Falls / Walking at Wentworth Falls

We hopen dat de parkeerplaats bij, en de paden naar Wentworth Falls weer allemaal open zijn want we willen de Cliff Top Circuit gaan lopen. Helaas is de parkeerplaats nog steeds afgesloten voor renovatie en een stuk van de wandeling ook nog. Maar er zijn een aantal paden al wel weer open, dus we kunnen nu wel naar Wentworth Falls lopen. Dat doen we dus ook. De paden zijn af en toe een beetje modderig en je loopt onder rotsen door, dus het is een beetje een avontuurlijke wandeling. En als je dan weer boven bij Wentworth Falls komt is het heerlijk. We eten daar onze lunch op en Fleur en Daan (en Erik) spelen nog even bij het water. We kunnen dan dezelfde weg weer terug lopen of de Charles Darwin Trail lopen. Omdat we het niet zo leuk vinden om twee keer hetzelfde stuk te lopen, doen we dus het laatste. Daan loopt het hele stuk zelf (ongeveer 3 km) wat hier prima gaat want je loopt een groot deel over planken. Erik zet z’n grote voeten nog bijna op een of andere hagedis (we hebben nog niet kunnen achterhalen wat het is, zie foto), maar die loopt rustig verder. Het is een lekker stuk lopen en aan het einde is een speeltuin waar Fleur en Daan nog even lekker kunnen spelen. Erik gaat dan alvast de auto halen. Zo hebben we toch nog een fijne wandeling gemaakt.

We hope that the parking area at, and the paths to Wentworth Falls are open again because we want to walk the Cliff Top Circuit. Unfortunately the parking area is still closed for renovation and part of the track is too. But some paths are open, so we can walk to Wentworth Falls. So that is what we do. The track is a bit muddy at some places and you have to walk under rocks, so the walk is little bit adventurous. And when you are on top of Wentworth Falls, it is wonderful. We have lunch there and Fleur and Daan (and Erik) play near the water. We have the option of taking the same way back or walk the Charles Darwin Trail. Because we do not like to walk the same way twice, we take the last one. Daan walks the whole way himself (about 3 km) which is going very well because a big part of the track you walk on wooden trails. Erik almost plants his big feet on some sort of lizard (we do not yet know which one, see picture), but it continues walking seemingly undisturbed. It is a nice walk altogether and at the end of the track there is a playground where Fleur and Daan can play for a while. Erik walks to the car to drive it to the parking place next to the playground. And so we did have a nice walk after all.

De dames gaan een dagje uit / The lady's are going out for a day

Jaki en Katrina vroegen gisteravond of ik vandaag zin had om mee te gaan naar de Camden Craft Markets (gewoon een gezellige markt met prullaria en knutselspullen en nog veel meer). Daar had ik wel zin in, alleen wilden ze om 9.00 uur al vertrekken. En ik moet eerst nog sporten van 6.45 uur tot 7.45 uur (jaja, voor iedereen die het nog niet wist, ik sport twee keer per week een uur ’s morgens vroeg). Maar goed, ik ben toch net op tijd klaar en we gaan er een gezellige dag van maken. De markt is heel erg leuk en we lunchen nog ergens in Camden en rijden daarna weer richting huis. Maar omdat het nog best vroeg is, besluiten we ook nog even snel naar de Parklea Markets (overdekte markt) te gaan want daar was ik ook nog niet geweest. Het was een hele gezellige dag en ik zal nog wel vaker meegaan naar een markt.

Jaki and Katrina asked me yesterday evening if I wanted to go to the Camden Craft Markets with them today. I loved to go but the only thing was that they wanted to leave at 9 am. And I first had to go to my exercise class from 6.45 am to 7.45 am (yes, for everyone that did not know it, I exercise twice a week for an hour early in the morning). But everything went well and I am ready just in time to go with them and we are going to have a fun day out. The market is very nice and we also have lunch somewhere in Camden before we drive back home. But because it is still early, we decide to go to the Parklea Markets (undercover markets) as well because I had not been there before. We had a great day and I will probably go to more markets with them in the future.

We gaan naar Horton hears a Who / We are going to Horton hears a Who

Katrina had gevraagd of we zin hadden om mee te gaan naar de film Horton hears a Who. De kerk waar zij naartoe gaat, draaide de film buiten op een groot scherm. Voorafgaand was er natuurlijk weer een sausage sizzle and activiteiten voor de kinderen. Fleur en Daan hebben een gipsen figuurtje geverfd, een koekje versierd en ze zijn geschminkt. Verder hebben ze gewoon nog lekker gespeeld tot het donker genoeg was om de film te draaien. We zaten gezellig met z’n allen op een paar kleden op het gras en de film was natuurlijk erg leuk. We hebben een fijne avond gehad.

Katrina had asked us if we wanted to see the movie Horton hears a Who. The church that she goes to, was showing that movie on a big screen outside. Before the movie started there was of course a sausage sizzle and a lot of activities for the children. Fleur and Daan painted plasters, decorated a cookie and got their faces painted. And they have just played until it was dark enough for the movie to start. We all sat on a couple of picnic blankets in the grass and the movie was of course a lot of fun. We had a great evening.

We gaan naar Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park / We are going to Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park

Ik wilde allang een keer naar Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park en vandaag zijn we er dan eindelijk heen gegaan. We zijn eerst naar Kalkari Discovery Centre gereden. Daar hadden ze wat informatie over wandelingen en je kon er dingen uit de natuur bekijken en voelen (bladeren, vruchten, slangevellen en nog veel meer). Dat was natuurlijk erg leuk en buiten kon je een korte wandeling maken door een omheind gebied. Er zouden heel veel verschillende dieren zitten, maar we hebben er maar een paar gezien. Bij het begin zaten een paar wallabies en kangaroos en veel cockatoos. En toen we door het bos aan het lopen waren, zagen we ook een paar kangaroos (eentje was er heel erg groot) en een kookaburra. Daarna zijn we naar Bobbin Head gereden. Hier kun je over een hangbrug lopen en daarna over een houten pad lopen door een mangrove. Daarna nog een stukje doorgelopen door het bos. We kwamen uit bij een klein stroompje waar Fleur in het water viel; broek vies en schoenen nat. Dat was huilen natuurlijk, maar gelukkig was het lekker weer dus had ze het niet koud. Bij de parkeerplaats was een grote speeltuin waar Fleur en Daan daarna nog lekker hebben gespeeld. Toen we Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park uitreden, werden we gestopt door de politie voor een alcoholcontrole. Dat was erg leuk want die hadden we hier nog niet gehad. Je hoeft hier niet te blazen, maar tot tien te tellen voor een apparaatje. Na een nauwkeurig onderzoek van Erik’s Nederlandse rijbewijs en zijn visum mochten we gelukkig doorrijden. Dat was een leuke afsluiting van een fijne dag.

I wanted to go to Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park for a long time, and today we finally went there. First we drove to Kalkari Discovery Centre. There they had information about different walks and you could see and feel things from nature (leafs, fruits, snake skins and a lot more). That was very nice and outside you could go for a short walk. They said that you could see a lot of animals there, but we only saw a few. At the start there were a couple of wallabies and kangaroos and a lot of cockatoos. And when we were walking through the forest, we saw some more kangaroos (one of them was really big) and a kookaburra. After that we drove to Bobbin Head. Here you can walk on a suspension bridge and then walk on a boardwalk through a mangrove. After that we walked a bit further through the forest. We ended at a little stream where Fleur fell in the water; dirty pants and shoes wet. Of course she started to cry, but luckily the weather was nice and she was not cold. Near the parking area was a big playground where Fleur and Daan played for a while. When we left Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park, we were stopped by the police for an alcohol check. That was fun because we had never had an alcohol check here. You do not have to blow into the breathalyzer here, but you count to ten in front of it. After a good look at Erik’s Dutch driver’s license and visa we were good to go. That was a fun end of a really nice day.

We hebben een trampoline gekocht / We bought a trampoline

We hebben vandaag een trampoline gekocht. Met een net eromheen omdat dat wel zo veilig is. Fleur en Daan vinden het geweldig zoals wel te zien is op deze foto's.

We bought a trampoline today. With a net around it because that is safer than without. Fleur and Daan love it a lot as you can see on the pictures.

We wandelen van Bondi Beach naar Bronte Beach en terug / We walk from Bondi Beach to Bronte Beach and back

Vandaag gaan de kids en ik wandelen met Katrina; Erik moet helaas gewoon werken. We gaan naar Bondi om een stuk van de Bondi naar Coogee kustwandeling te lopen. De rit er naartoe is toch niet zo makkelijk. We hebben een stratenboek bij ons en de makkelijkste weg erheen lijkt door het centrum van Sydney te gaan. Dat lukt allemaal goed, totdat er in het centrum niet echt goed meer aangegeven wordt waar je heen moet. Uiteindelijk vinden we de goede weg wel en zijn we rond de middag in Bondi. Het is heerlijk weer en de uitzichten zijn spectaculair. Daan loopt vandaag ook de hele dag zelf en dat gaat prima. Onderweg stoppen we ook nog even om onze zelf meegebrachte lunch op te eten. We lopen tot Bronte Beach en dan weer terug naar Bondi. Kunnen we nu tenminste zeggen dat we ook op Bondi Beach (het bekendste strand van Sydney) zijn geweest. De weg terug naar huis gaat gelukkig een stuk beter want we besluiten om niet meer door het centrum terug te rijden. Als goede afsluiting van de dag gaan we nog uit eten en Erik komt ook nog naar het restaurant. Het was een heel erg gezellige dag zo.

Today the kids and I go walking with Katrina; unfortunately Erik had to go to work. We go to Bondi to walk part of the Bondi to Coogee coastal walk. The drive there turns out to be more difficult than we thought. We do have a good map and the easiest way there seems to go through the centre of Sydney. Everything goes well until we are in the centre and there are no good street marks to tell us where we have to go. Eventually we do find the right way and around noon we arrive at Bondi. The weather is very nice and the views are spectacular. Daan is walking by himself today and is doing very well. On the way we stop to eat the lunch we brought. We walk to Bronte Beach and then turn back to Bondi. At least now we can say that we have been to Bondi Beach (the most famous beach of Sydney). Luckily the way back home is going a lot better because we decide not to drive trough the centre anymore. And for a good end of the day we go out to dinner and Erik joins us at the restaurant too. It was a very nice day today.

We gaan naar Nurragingy en Kaila gaat mee / We are going to Nurragingy and Kaila is coming with us

Fleur wilde deze week nog wel een keer met Kaila afspreken en omdat het zo lekker weer is, besluiten we naar Nurragingy te gaan en Kaila mee te vragen. Gelukkig heeft Kaila vandaag niks anders en kan ze dus gezellig met ons mee. We gaan eerst naar de speeltuin en daarna lopen we nog een stuk door het park. We hebben steppen en het fietsje van Daan meegenomen, en brood voor de eendjes, dus het is erg leuk in het park. Dit moeten we maar snel nog eens doen.

Fleur wanted to play with Kaila this week and because the weather is so nice, we decided to go to Nurragingy and asked Kaila as well. Luckily Kaila had nothing else to do today and so she can join us in the fun. First we go to the playground and after that we walk through the park for a while. We took the scooters and tricycle of Daan, and bread for the ducks, so we have a great time in the park. We have to do this again soon.

Wandelen om Dee Why Head / Walking around Dee Why Head

Vandaag is een vrije dag hier in Australië (Labour Day) en we wilden gaan wandelen, maar ‘s morgens zou het nog gaan regenen. We hadden een korte wandeling uitgezocht want vanmiddag moesten we ook nog naar een verjaardag. We reden naar Dee Why Beach waar we even in de regen op het strand hebben gelopen. Daan vond het een goed idee om met zijn schoenen aan in de zee te gaan staan, en die waren dus gelijk nat en helemaal onder het zand. Omdat het nog steeds een beetje regent, rijden we eerst nog maar even naar Freshwater Reserve. Je kunt hier over de rotsen beneden vlak bij de zee lopen en je hebt een heel mooi uitzicht over Long Reef Aquatic Reserve en Manly aan de ene kant en Cabbage Tree Bay Aquatic Reserve aan de andere kant. Daarna rijden we naar Noord Curl Curl Beach waar we het pad lopen om Dee Why Head. Wat is de lente toch mooi, want een groot deel van de wandeling lopen we tussen bloemen in alle kleuren en soorten, fantastisch. Net voor Dee Why Beach eten en drinken we even iets en rusten een beetje uit om daarna weer terug te lopen naar Noord Curl Curl Beach. De wandeling was geweldig met fantastische uitzichten. We hebben genoten en gelukkig was het weer beter geworden. We hebben bijna alleen maar zon gehad met wandelen, heerlijk.
Daarna moesten we snel naar huis om de kadootjes op te halen voor het verjaardagsfeestje van Maia. Dat was ook erg gezellig. De kids hebben nog lekker buiten kunnen spelen en wij hebben heerlijk buiten gezeten. En zoals bij een echt Australisch feestje hadden ze een sausage sizzle, lekkere worstjes op de barbecue en die in een broodje met ui, champignons en saus opeten, lekker hoor.

Today is a public holiday in Australia (Labour Day) and we wanted to go for a walk, but in the morning they said it was going to rain. We found a short walk because in the afternoon we also had to go to a party. We drove to Dee Why Beach where we walked at the beach for a while in the rain. Daan thought it was a good idea to stand in the sea with his shoes on, so they were soaked and full of sand. Because it was still raining a bit, we first drove to Freshwater Reserve. You can walk on the rocks close to the sea and you have a good view over Long Reef Aquatic Reserve and Manly at one side and Cabbage Tree Bay Aquatic Reserve at the other side. After that we drive to North Curl Curl Beach where we walk to path around Dee Why Head. Spring is so beautiful; because a big part of the walk, we walked trough fields of flowers in all different colours and types, fantastic. Just before Dee Why Beach we eat and drink something, have a rest and after that walk back to North Curl Curl Beach. The walk was wonderful with great views. We enjoyed it a lot and lucky for us the weather got a lot better. We had a lot of sun during our walk.
After that we had to quickly drive home to pick up the presents for Maia’s birthday party. The party was nice. The kids played outside and we sat outside as well. And like you see at every Aussie party, they had a sausage sizzle, nice sausages on the barbecue, and you eat them in a bun with onion, mushrooms and sauce, yummy.

Een rustig weekend / A quiet weekend

Dit weekend hebben we lekker niks gedaan. Is wel lekker hoor. Het was ook niet zo heel erg mooi weer. Gisteren hoorde Erik een kookaburra in de achtertuin. Toen hij de camera had gepakt, vloog de kookaburra net weg over het huis. Gelukkig ging hij aan de overkant van de straat op de antenne op een huis zitten en heeft Erik er nog een foto van kunnen maken. Het was wel bijzonder want we hebben nog nooit een kookaburra in onze straat gezien. Vandaag waren de kids lekker aan het spelen en hebben ze heel lief samen boeken zitten lezen. Het was zo toch wel erg gezellig.

This weekend we did absolutely nothing. That was very nice. The weather was not that good anyway. Yesterday Erik heard a kookaburra in the back yard. When he got the camera, the kookaburra flew away over the house. Luckily it just went to the other side of the street and sat on the antenna of a house and Erik could take a picture of it. It was very special because we have never seen a kookaburra in our street. Today the kids were playing together nicely and together they read some books. We had a good time.

Fleur en Daan doen een cheerleading workshop / Fleur and Daan are following a cheerleading workshop

In de vakanties hebben ze vaak in de winkelcentra van alles te doen voor de kids. In het winkelcentrum in Rouse Hill hadden ze vandaag een cheerleading workshop. Ik had Fleur hiervoor aangemeld en om 12.00 uur was het dan zover. Er was een podium gemaakt waar alle kinderen op konden en ze deden allemaal trucjes en aan het einde ook nog een dansje met de pompoms. Daan mocht ook nog meedoen en Fleur en Daan vonden het echt heel erg leuk. Het was trouwens dezelfde cheerleading school als we hadden op Fleur’s feestje. Daarom mocht Daan denk ik ook meedoen. Volgende vakanties moeten we de workshops maar beter in de gaten houden, want het is toch wel heel erg leuk voor de kids.

During the holidays they often have a lot of fun things to do for the kids in de shopping malls. At the Rouse Hill shopping mall they had a cheerleading workshop today. I had signed up Fleur for this workshop and at noon it all started. They had a stage where all the kids could go on and they did a lot of tricks and at the end they also did a little dance with the pompoms. Daan also got to join them and Fleur and Daan both loved it. It was actually the same cheerleading school as we had at Fleur’s party. I think that was the reason that Daan was allowed to join in. Next holidays I must have a better look at all the workshops, because it is a lot of fun for the kids.
