Nog een keer naar pre school / Going to pre school again

Vandaag hadden we nog een keer een gesprek bij de pre school van Daan. Een beetje een uitleg over hoe een dag daar verloopt en wat je allemaal mee moet geven. Daan vond het weer erg leuk om erheen te gaan. En natuurlijk zagen we buurvrouw Jaki daar ook nog, want ze werkt daar. Nog maar 2 ½ maand dan gaat hij naar pre school, en hij kan bijna niet wachten tot het zover is.

Today we had another talk at Daan’s pre school. They told us about how a day at pre school goes and what you have to bring. Daan enjoyed it a lot to go there again. And we also saw our neighbour Jaki, because she works there. Only 2 ½ months and he is going to pre school, and he can hardly wait to go.

Christmas Party Trophy Day

De dansschool van Fleur heeft vandaag een Christmas Party Trophy Day. Dat wordt gehouden bij Life Adventure Site in Kurrajong, ongeveer 50 minuten rijden. Gelukkig is het erg mooi weer vandaag en het is een lekker dagje. Ze hebben er een zwembad en een speeltuin. Gemma is er ook met haar zusje Jorgia en de rest van haar familie en dus vermaken de kids zich prima. Tussen de middag krijgen alle kinderen van de dansschool een trofee uitgereikt voor al het goede werk van het afgelopen jaar. En daarna is er weer een sausage sizzle. Tegen de avond rijden we terug naar huis en gaan onderweg ook nog even wat eten.

Fleur’s dance school is having a Christmas Party Trophy Day today. It is at Life Adventure Site in Kurrajong, about 50 minutes drive. Luckily the weather is very good today so we have a great day. There is a swimming pool and a playground. Gemma is also there with her sister Jorgia and the rest of the family so the kids are having a great time. At noon all the children from the dance school receive a trophy for all the good work they have done this year. And after that they have a sausage sizzle. At the end of the afternoon we go back home and on the way we stop to have a bite to eat.

Christmas card making workshop

De kerk waar Katrina heen gaat, had vandaag een Christmas card making workshop. Katrina en Jaki gingen daar naartoe en ik ben ook meegegaan. We hebben twee verschillende kaarten gemaakt. Het was erg leuk om te doen, maar er gaat ook wel heel veel tijd in zitten. Ik denk niet dat ik dit jaar zelf kaarten zal maken. Maar de twee kaarten die ik heb gemaakt, zijn wel heel mooi geworden (vind ik zelf...) en het was erg gezellig.

The church where Katrina is going to was having a Christmas card making workshop. Katrina and Jaki were going and I went with them. We made two different cards. It was very nice to do, but it is very time consuming to make your own cards. So I do not think I will make my own Christmas cards this year. But the two cards that I have made look very good (at least I think so….) and we had a nice evening.

Zwemmen na de zwemles / Swimming after the swimming lesson

Op maandag heeft Fleur altijd zwemles en de laatste tijd gaat Daan af en toe ook even zwemmen. Vandaag gaat Erik ook mee naar zwemles en ook hij gaat even zwemmen. Na de zwemles gaan ze nog een met z’n drietjes zwemmen en spelen. Fleur en Daan vinden het geweldig dat Erik ook in het water is en de golven in het zwembad blijven ook erg leuk. On Monday Fleur has her swimming lesson and lately Daan sometimes has a swim as well. Today Erik is coming to the swimming lesson too and he will also go for a swim. After the swimming lesson the three of them go for a swim and a play in the water. Fleur and Daan love it that Erik is there too and the waves in the pool are a lot of fun. Ik ben jarig vandaag (34 alweer) / It is my birthday today (34 already)

Vandaag ben ik dan jarig. We besluiten om gewoon lekker een rustig dagje te hebben. Fleur en Daan maken nog een paar mooie dingen voor mij ’s morgens met de hulp van Erik (hij was blij dat hij klaar was na ruim een uur). We bakken een cake en Fleur en Daan versieren hem samen. En ’s middags komt Katrina ook nog even langs. Het was een gezellige verjaardag.

Today is my birthday. We decide to just have a nice and quiet day. Fleur and Daan make some beautiful things for me in the morning with the help of Erik (he was glad that they were finished after more than an hour). We bake a cake and Fleur and Daan decorated it together. And in the afternoon Katrina came over as well. It was a very nice day.

Thanksgiving Dinner

De kerk waar playgroup bij hoort, had vandaag een Thanksgiving Dinner. Wij waren ook uitgenodigd omdat de kinderen van playgoup (met hun ouders) twee liedjes zouden doen zoals we ze ook tijdens playgroup doen. De kinderen vonden het erg leuk en het ging best goed. Al het eten was gemaakt door verschillende mensen van de kerk en het was heerlijk. Het was een erg gezellige avond en ze hebben ook nog voor mij gezongen omdat het morgen mijn verjaardag is.

The church of our playgroup had a Thanksgiving Dinner today. We were invited as well because the children of playgroup (with their parents) were doing two songs like we do them during playgroup. The children liked it a lot and we did not do too badly. All the food was made by different people of the church and it was very good. It was a very nice night and they also sang for me because it is my birthday tomorrow.

Fleur spreken bij de assembly en ze zingen / Fleur is on stage with the assembly and they sing

Vandaag was de hosting van de grote assembly in handen van de klas van Fleur en een year 2 klas. Fleur mocht deze keer ook weer wat zeggen en ze deed het weer erg goed. Fleur is helemaal niet verlegen als ze op het podium moet staan, erg knap hoor. Ook deden deze twee klassen nog een liedje. De muziek ging niet helemaal goed, en niet alle kinderen doen even goed mee, maar het is wel heel erg leuk om te kijken.

Today the hosting of the whole school assembly was done by Fleur’s class and a year 2 class. Fleur got to go on stage to say something again and she did very well. Fleur is not shy at all when she is on stage. These two classes also did a song. The music did not work well the whole time, and not all of the children liked to sing and dance, but it was very nice to watch.

Fleur gaat naar het feestje van Stephanie / Fleur is going to Stephanie's birthday party

Fleur had vandaag weer een feestje. Het was het feestje van Stephanie en het was in de binnenspeeltuin waar ze al een keer een ander feestje had gehad. Die keer had ze ook een bonnetje gekregen voor een gratis entree. En dus heb ik Daan ook weer meegenomen naar de binnenspeeltuin en hebben ze zo vandaag allebei een leuke dag gehad.

Today Fleur had a birthday party again. It was the birthday party of Stephanie and it was in the same indoor playground as where she already has had another party. That time she also got a ticket for a free entry. And so I took Daan to the indoor playground and they both had a fun day out.

Een dagje naar Dee Why Beach / A day at Dee Why Beach

Vandaag gaan we naar het strand. We gaan naar Dee Why Beach. Het is lekker weer, maar het waait wel een beetje. We zoeken een leuk plekje uit niet te ver van de zee. We zitten nog niet eens helemaal goed of er rennen al twee lifeguards het water in. Maar de reddingsactie kan worden afgebroken want de meneer kan toch zelf naar het strand komen, hij had waarschijnlijk kramp. Fleur en Daan gaan lekker in het zand spelen en daarna met Erik in de zee. De golven zijn hier best sterk, maar ze vinden het geweldig. Fleur en Daan gaan ook nog even zelf in de golven spelen. Als er een golf aankomt, rennen ze heel hard weg. Dat is natuurlijk dolle pret. Totdat Daan op een gegeven moment struikelt, de golf hem nog meer omgooit, helemaal over hem heen gaat en hem zelfs nog een keer extra laat rollen door de zee en het zand. Daan zit helemaal onder het zand en is kleddernat. We drogen hem goed af en hij komt even bij mij op schoot een beetje opwarmen (het zeewater is ijskoud). Daarna wil hij gelijk weer de zee in, maar wel met Erik. En dan nog iets anders, wij waren al een keer naar achter gegaan met onze spullen omdat de zee toch wel heel dichtbij kwam. Een eindje verderop zaten mensen die dat niet hadden gedaan en die werden op een gegeven moment helemaal weggespoeld. Een heleboel spullen werden de zee in gesleurd, was grappig om te zien maar die mensen zullen wel flink gebaald hebben. Maar goed, voor ons was het een lekker dagje op het strand, alleen af en toe door de wind een klein beetje fris. Als afsluiter (en nog voor de verjaardag van Erik) gaan we uit eten in een restaurantje in Dee Why, we eten lekker en het is erg gezellig.

Today we are going to the beach. We go to Dee Why Beach. The weather is nice but with a little bit of wind. We find a nice spot not too far from the sea. Before we all find a good spot in the sand we see two lifeguards running in the water. But the rescue mission can be stopped because the man walks back to the beach by himself, he probably had a cramp. Fleur and Daan go and play in the sand and after that they go in the sea with Erik. The waves are pretty strong here, but they love it. Fleur and Daan play in the waves alone as well. When a waves comes rolling towards them they run away. They are having a lot of fun with that. Until Daan trips, the wave nocks him over, goes over him completely and even makes him roll around an extra time through the sea and the sand. Daan is covered in sand and is soaking wet. We dry him and he sits with me for a while to warm up a bit (the seawater is freezing cold). After that he straight away wants to go back in the sea, but with Erik this time. And then something else, we had moved all our stuff backwards already because the sea was coming pretty close. A little bit away from us were people that had not done that and they got completely swiped away by the sea. A lot of their stuff was dragged into the sea, it was funny to watch but I think those people were not happy at all. But, we had a great day at the beach, only sometimes it was a little bit chilly because of the wind. As a good end of the day (and for Erik’s birthday) we went out to dinner in a nice little restaurant in Dee Why; we had good food and a good time.

Fleur is verteller van een verhaaltje met assembly / Fleur is narrator of a story with assembly

De klas van Fleur doet vandaag de hosting van de kleine assembly. Fleur hoeft deze keer niet op het podium om iets te zeggen. Maar de klas van Fleur doet ook nog een verhaaltje tijdens de assembly en Fleur is de verteller van het verhaal. We hebben goed geoefend deze week thuis en het gaat heel goed (alleen is het lastig om de microfoon goed bij haar mond te houden en het papiertje om te slaan). Het is een leuk verhaaltje over drie olifanten en de kinderen doen allemaal goed hun best. Wij vonden het heel erg leuk.

Fleur’s class is hosting the small assembly today. Fleur does not have to sit on stage to say something this time. But Fleur’s class is also doing a little story and Fleur is the narrator of the story. We practice hard at home this week and it is going very well (the only problem is holding the microphone close to her mouth and going to the next page). It is a nice story about three elephants and all the children are doing their best. We thought it was a lot of fun.

Erik is jarig vandaag (39 alweer) / It is Erik's birthday today (39 already)

Vandaag is Erik jarig. De kids hebben wat leuke dingen voor hem geknutseld en we hebben gisteren nog een paar leuke kadootjes voor hem gekocht. Omdat Erik vandaag wel gewoon moet werken en Fleur gewoon naar school moet, zingen we heel vroeg voor hem en geven daarna alle kadootjes. En Fleur heeft vandaag dansles, dus kunnen we ook niet uit eten. Dat gaan we in het weekend dan nog wel doen. ’s Avonds komen Katrina en Des nog even langs met een kadootje voor Erik en zo is de dag weer snel voorbij.

Today is Erik’s birthday. The kids made some beautiful things for him and yesterday we bought a couple of nice presents. Because Erik has to go to work today and Fleur has to go to school, we sing early in the morning and after that we give all the presents. And Fleur has dancing lessons today, so we cannot go out to dinner tonight either. But we will do that on the weekend. In the evening Katrina and Des come over with a present for Erik as well and so the day went by very quick.

Wandelen bij Wentworth Falls / Walking at Wentworth Falls

We hopen dat de parkeerplaats bij, en de paden naar Wentworth Falls weer allemaal open zijn want we willen de Cliff Top Circuit gaan lopen. Helaas is de parkeerplaats nog steeds afgesloten voor renovatie en een stuk van de wandeling ook nog. Maar er zijn een aantal paden al wel weer open, dus we kunnen nu wel naar Wentworth Falls lopen. Dat doen we dus ook. De paden zijn af en toe een beetje modderig en je loopt onder rotsen door, dus het is een beetje een avontuurlijke wandeling. En als je dan weer boven bij Wentworth Falls komt is het heerlijk. We eten daar onze lunch op en Fleur en Daan (en Erik) spelen nog even bij het water. We kunnen dan dezelfde weg weer terug lopen of de Charles Darwin Trail lopen. Omdat we het niet zo leuk vinden om twee keer hetzelfde stuk te lopen, doen we dus het laatste. Daan loopt het hele stuk zelf (ongeveer 3 km) wat hier prima gaat want je loopt een groot deel over planken. Erik zet z’n grote voeten nog bijna op een of andere hagedis (we hebben nog niet kunnen achterhalen wat het is, zie foto), maar die loopt rustig verder. Het is een lekker stuk lopen en aan het einde is een speeltuin waar Fleur en Daan nog even lekker kunnen spelen. Erik gaat dan alvast de auto halen. Zo hebben we toch nog een fijne wandeling gemaakt.

We hope that the parking area at, and the paths to Wentworth Falls are open again because we want to walk the Cliff Top Circuit. Unfortunately the parking area is still closed for renovation and part of the track is too. But some paths are open, so we can walk to Wentworth Falls. So that is what we do. The track is a bit muddy at some places and you have to walk under rocks, so the walk is little bit adventurous. And when you are on top of Wentworth Falls, it is wonderful. We have lunch there and Fleur and Daan (and Erik) play near the water. We have the option of taking the same way back or walk the Charles Darwin Trail. Because we do not like to walk the same way twice, we take the last one. Daan walks the whole way himself (about 3 km) which is going very well because a big part of the track you walk on wooden trails. Erik almost plants his big feet on some sort of lizard (we do not yet know which one, see picture), but it continues walking seemingly undisturbed. It is a nice walk altogether and at the end of the track there is a playground where Fleur and Daan can play for a while. Erik walks to the car to drive it to the parking place next to the playground. And so we did have a nice walk after all.

De dames gaan een dagje uit / The lady's are going out for a day

Jaki en Katrina vroegen gisteravond of ik vandaag zin had om mee te gaan naar de Camden Craft Markets (gewoon een gezellige markt met prullaria en knutselspullen en nog veel meer). Daar had ik wel zin in, alleen wilden ze om 9.00 uur al vertrekken. En ik moet eerst nog sporten van 6.45 uur tot 7.45 uur (jaja, voor iedereen die het nog niet wist, ik sport twee keer per week een uur ’s morgens vroeg). Maar goed, ik ben toch net op tijd klaar en we gaan er een gezellige dag van maken. De markt is heel erg leuk en we lunchen nog ergens in Camden en rijden daarna weer richting huis. Maar omdat het nog best vroeg is, besluiten we ook nog even snel naar de Parklea Markets (overdekte markt) te gaan want daar was ik ook nog niet geweest. Het was een hele gezellige dag en ik zal nog wel vaker meegaan naar een markt.

Jaki and Katrina asked me yesterday evening if I wanted to go to the Camden Craft Markets with them today. I loved to go but the only thing was that they wanted to leave at 9 am. And I first had to go to my exercise class from 6.45 am to 7.45 am (yes, for everyone that did not know it, I exercise twice a week for an hour early in the morning). But everything went well and I am ready just in time to go with them and we are going to have a fun day out. The market is very nice and we also have lunch somewhere in Camden before we drive back home. But because it is still early, we decide to go to the Parklea Markets (undercover markets) as well because I had not been there before. We had a great day and I will probably go to more markets with them in the future.

We gaan naar Horton hears a Who / We are going to Horton hears a Who

Katrina had gevraagd of we zin hadden om mee te gaan naar de film Horton hears a Who. De kerk waar zij naartoe gaat, draaide de film buiten op een groot scherm. Voorafgaand was er natuurlijk weer een sausage sizzle and activiteiten voor de kinderen. Fleur en Daan hebben een gipsen figuurtje geverfd, een koekje versierd en ze zijn geschminkt. Verder hebben ze gewoon nog lekker gespeeld tot het donker genoeg was om de film te draaien. We zaten gezellig met z’n allen op een paar kleden op het gras en de film was natuurlijk erg leuk. We hebben een fijne avond gehad.

Katrina had asked us if we wanted to see the movie Horton hears a Who. The church that she goes to, was showing that movie on a big screen outside. Before the movie started there was of course a sausage sizzle and a lot of activities for the children. Fleur and Daan painted plasters, decorated a cookie and got their faces painted. And they have just played until it was dark enough for the movie to start. We all sat on a couple of picnic blankets in the grass and the movie was of course a lot of fun. We had a great evening.
