Anzac Day Ceremony at Fleur's school

Vandaag hebben ze bij Fleur op school een Anzac Day Ceremony. Anzac Day is een soort 4 mei in Nederland, een dodenherdenking. De kinderen was gevraagd om op vrijdagmorgen bloemen mee te nemen zodat er bloemstukken gemaakt konden worden in de klas. Omdat ik normaal gesproken op vrijdagmorgen in de klas help, ben ik nu gebleven om te helpen met het maken van de bloemstukken. De kinderen hadden allemaal heel erg mooie bloemen meegenomen uit de tuin. De juf heeft een mooi boeket gemaakt en ik heb een soort rond bloemstuk op een karton gemaakt. Het zag er allemaal heel erg mooi uit. ’s Middags was de Anzac Day Ceremony en Daan en ik kwamen natuurlijk ook kijken. Fleur mocht samen met Ariana de bloemen van hun klas op het podium leggen. Dat was natuurlijk wel heel speciaal. Er werd gezongen en er waren twee oud-militairen die kwamen vertellen over de oorlog. Er werd ook één minuut stilte gehouden met het bijpassende trompetgeschal, dat was ook heel erg mooi. Het is toch best goed dat ze dit op school doen, dan zijn de kinderen iets meer betrokken bij het hele gebeuren. Het was een interessante middag.

Today there is an Anzac Day Ceremony at Fleur’s school today. Anzac Day is like the 4th of May in Holland, remembering all the people that died during wars. The kids were asked to bring flowers on Friday morning so they could make flower arrangements in class. Because I always help in class on Friday morning, I now stayed to help make the flower arrangements. The kids all brought really beautiful flowers from their gardens. Their teacher made a lovely bouquet en I made a round flower arrangement on cardboard. It all looked really nice. In the afternoon they had the Anzac Day Ceremony and Daan and I came to watch as well. Fleur and Ariana had to bring the flowers from their class onto the stage. That, of course, was really special. They sang songs and there were two former military men who came to tell about the war. They also had one minute of silence with the trumpet sounds that you always hear at a moment like that, that was also nice. I think it is good that they do these things in school, because the kids are more involved with it now. It was an interesting afternoon.
